Additional Comments:  "This is essentially a very compelling film about addiction, with a focus on alcoholism.  Denzel Washington plays an addicted pilot, and it should come as no surprise that he is seen smoking the most (11 of the film's 18 smoking incidents).  The remaining smoking is done by a  number of the other  stars and costars of the filme, including Nadine Velazquez, Kelly Reilly, Charlie E. SchmidtJohn Goodman, and James Badge Dale.  The strangest scene occurs in a hospital stairwell, where several characters meet for a clandestine smoke.  When Denzel Washington offers him a cigarette, a guant, balding man says "I should quit.  My cancer might get cancer."  This scene spoke to the compelling nature of addiction, as well as the dangers of tobacco use."
