Additional Comments:
"This was a throwback to old westerns in every way possible, including the depiction of tobacco use. Two characters in particular were seen with cigars in almost every scene in which they appeared: Buford, The Gas Can Saloon Bartender (Blake Clark) and Wounded Bird (Gil Birmingham).
In one particularly disturbing scene, Rango responds to his discomfort around the cigar-smoking Bad Bill (Ray Winstone) by grabbing the cigar and actually eating it.
In all, eight different characters smoke a total of 27 times during this PG movie. Granted, the film may not really be a kids' film, but the PG-Rating and the association with Nickelodeon Films certainly sends the wrong message!"
