"There is an interesting scene early in this film that seems to make an odd reference to tobacco. Obi-Wan Kenobi tails an assassin into a nightclub where he has the following odd encounter:

Our alien friend is pushing something called 'death sticks', which look exactly like cigarettes.
I wonder if George Lucas is having regrets given the extensive presence of hookah pipes throughout the original Star Wars trilogy. The action figures marketed to children even came with their own water pipes...
Is he trying to recant the glorification of smoking in his earlier films? It wouldn't be the only history that he attempted to revise in his prequels... just what the heck are Midi-chlorians, and why do we need a scientific explanation of The Force? Too much hero-worship, George?"
