Dr. Barry Hummel posted the following additional comments:

"The Invisible Man, featuring Claude Rains as the title character, was one of the classic Universal Studios horror films of the 1930's.  The opening scene of the movie takes place in a local pub, when the mysterious man, shrouded in gauze to hide his 'deformity', enters to request a bed for the night.  See if you can count the number of people smoking in the pub:

Eight different characters can be seen smoking in that clip, contributing to the haze of smoke that fills the bar.  Did you know that a non-smokers smokes the equivalent of 5 cigarettes for every two hours spent in a smoke-filled bar?

Later, the invisible man returns to expose his true identity to a former colleague.  We can only see the invisible man as he manipulates the physical environment... he switches off the radio... he moves the rocking chair... and, yes, he lights and smokes a cigarette!

As the invisible man plots with his friend to exploit the power of his invisibility, he discusses the various things that give him away:

Odd that he should mention that dirt is visible under his fingernails, or that food is visible immediately after he eats it.  He even tells his friend that soot and smoke settles on him "until you can see a dark outline."  How come he doesn't mention that the smoke he inhales would be visible in his lungs?"
