Additional Comments:  "As you can imagine in a World War II period piece, there was a significant amount of smoking.  Unfortunately, with 44 smoking incidents, it was even more pervasive than necessary.  In fact, every single one of the self-titled group of 'Monuments Men' except Matt Damon was shown smoking during the film, including George Clooney, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin, Hugh Bonneville, and Dimitri Leonidas.  Even Cate Blanchett, portraying a French sympathizer, managed to squeeze in a couple of cigarettes.  There were a couple of notable scenes.  In one scene, Bob Balaban is actually coerced in to smoking to diffuse a volatile situation, even as he announced that he was a non-smoker.  In another scene, Jean Dujardin offered a cigarette to a horse.  However, the most bizarre scene involved a medical exam of Hugh Bonneville, during which both the doctor and the patient were shown smoking in the exam room.  Sadly, you can make a great World War II movie and choose not to depict smoking, as demonstrated by Captain America: The First Avenger."
